Fort Myers Fire Dance: module 4

This piece of public art is something I see quite often because it is a five-minute drive from the city of palms, where I practice every day. The piece was named the Fire Dance and was sculpted by a man named David Black. He said that the sculpture is used to inspire others. David Black created this sculpture with lots of spirals, circles, and counterbalances. The subject black puts his sculpture in is called "proto-architect". This means it contains shapes such as arches, pillars, and canopies. The Fire Dance sculpture sits about 25 feet, taller than the surrounding palm trees, and is a fire red aluminum color. Its purpose is to inspire people to become engineers, architects, and visual artists. all of the cuts outs of the sculptor allow spectators to walk underneath and through the sculptor completely. The way the Florida sunlight hits this sculptor is amazing because it creates so many different shadows from every angle. The sculptor does not just inspire people of art but for music as well. Also, Black describes this sculptor as being rhythmic, open, and airy, like jazz music. In my opinion, the art piece seems to tell the community of Fort Myers to get out and explore and experience creativity. At practice, we have to run what we call "the bridge", which you can see is right behind the sculpture, I see people all time taking pictures with the Fire Dance and of the Fire Dance. I see all the different shadows this piece gives off and I think it is very fascinating that David Black just took very different shapes and made it where a new shadow laid on the ground and every angle. The Fire Dance sculpture is a piece that sits on a corner of Centennial Park in Downtown Fort Myers, Flordia.
